2018 was a year of firsts for our amazing chapter. Over the past few months we have really began defining ourselves on campus and we’ve been developing programs and events that set Delta Phi Epsilon apart here at Kutztown University. Aside from an incredible recruitment season, our most successful activity of this year would hands-down, have to be our first ever Deepher Dudes! After countless hours of planning and contacting other chapters to get ideas, our sisters were finally able to organize and put on this event. As we are a smaller chapter, and this was our first time doing anything of this nature, this event really took off in ways we could never have imagined. Not only were we able to attract an insanely large following for Deepher Dudes, we also were able to surpass our fundraising goal! We as a chapter raised over $1,300 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and we are beyond excited about this incredible accomplishment.

“For our it being our first Deepher Dudes I think it went really well. A lot of people from other organizations attended and expressed to me how much fun they had. All of the men who participated really did a great job getting involved and worked so hard to raise money for a great cause.” -Mandy Scarcella, Vice President of Programming

This event took a lot of innovation and our fearless leaders Mandy Scarcella, Vice President of Programming and Paetyn Klinger, Cystic Fibrosis Coordinator & Fundraising Coordinator took on the task with open arms. They contacted local businesses, chapters of Delta Phi Epsilon and sisters far and wide to come together for this event. They created unique and eye-catching raffle baskets and props for the event, that we have never done in the past. The VPP Team even created a new type of competition for the participants to do, where they partnered with a local pizza place, and had a Dine and Donate for each separate team. The marketing and multiple competitions for this event not only drew in Greek Life across campus, but it got the Kutztown Community involved as well. We even had some of our amazing Alumna come up to support the event! Creating an event of this size is not an easy task, but our sisters did an amazing job with it! With the theme of Superheroes for the event, not only did our VPP team create shirts and graphics, they also made props for the stage and wrote up scripts to fit this theme.

This event also aligned with the Delta Phi Epsilon motto of “Esse Quam Videri- To Be Rather Than To Seem To Be.” Our sisters and participants alike took to this event with everything they had. The VPP Team even was able to get Angie Kinney, a parent of two daughters with Cystic Fibrosis and the aunt to our sister Hayley Wilson, to come speak and share her story. Not only did she inspire us and motivate our chapter, she was able to take the time to shine light on what this illness can do to a family.

We believe as a whole that it is important to practice what we preach. Our motto, Esse Quam Videri, is something that we hold in very high regard. We love that we were able to start and follow through with such an amazing event and do our absolute best with Deepher Dudes in order to uphold our values and give everything we can to our philanthropies. We chose the theme of superhero’s for many reasons. We were so incredibly thrilled that so many organizations and men were able to come together and be the real superhero’s. They are people who were willing to put everything they had into our event and ultimately make it a success. They are our heroes helping to fight the battle against Cystic Fibrosis and for that the Zeta Gamma chapter cannot thank them enough. -Paetyn Klinger, Cystic Fibrosis Coordinator & Fundraising Coordinator.

We can’t wait to see what the 2019 year has in store for our chapter, and we are so excited to continue supporting philanthropies that we hold so close to our hearts. Here’s to a year of memories, growth and sisterhood! To see more pictures from our Deepher Dudes check out the slideshow below. YITS!
